How do we get up to Arang Kel?

By chairlift from Kel, then a walk up to the village, or about 2 hours on foot all the way.

Taobat is the last village at the far end of Neelum Valley, beyond Kel. The road after Sharda is narrow and rough, and it is one of the most scenic drives in northern Pakistan.

When is the best time for this tour?

March to October. From December to February snow usually closes the road beyond Sharda, so Kel, Arang Kel and Taobat can’t be reached.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Islamabad → Muzaffarabad → Kutton

Pickup in Islamabad for the 3 to 4 hour drive to Muzaffarabad. After lunch, head into Neelum Valley via Dhani or Panjgran Waterfall to Kutton.

Day 2

Kutton → Sharda

An early start past Athmuqam, Keran, Dowarian, Khawaja Seri and Dosut to Sharda for river rafting, boating, trout and an optional 10-minute walk to the ancient Sharda ruins.

Sharda → Kel → Arang Kel

Drive to Kel via the Shangrila Sharda road, then the chairlift and a hike up to Arang Kel for green meadows and mountain views.

Arang Kel → Taobat

An early drive to Taobat on one of the most scenic tracks in northern Pakistan, through Janawai, Phulawai, Sardari, Halmat, Nikro and Karimabad, with stops for views and photos.

A full day to explore the villages and meadows of Taobat on foot.

Drive back down the valley to Keran, with an optional visit to Upper Neelum.
