Can we choose our hotels?

Can we take this road trip outside summer?

The route uses Babusar Top, which is usually open from about May or June to October. Outside those months we can take the Karakoram Highway via Besham instead.

What are the roads like from Islamabad to Hunza?

Mostly paved and well maintained, with a few stretches where you need to drive carefully. Our drivers know the route well.

When is the best time to visit Hunza?

May to September, when the valley is green. Spring brings cherry and apricot blossom, autumn turns the poplars gold, and winter is very cold — best for snow lovers.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Islamabad → Naran

Depart in the morning for the 280 km, 6 to 8 hour drive via Abbottabad, Mansehra, Balakot, Kiwai, Paras and the Suki Kinari dam to Naran.

Overnight Naran

Day 2

Naran → Karimabad

After breakfast, the 317 km, 8 to 10 hour drive via Batakundi, Lulusar Lake, Babusar Top, Chilas, Jaglot and Gilgit to Karimabad.

Overnight Karimabad

Day 3

Karimabad → Attabad

Visit Altit and Baltit forts and Eagle’s Nest viewpoint, with views of Ladyfinger Peak, then head to Attabad.

Overnight Attabad

Day 4

Attabad Lake → Passu

Attabad Lake, the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, the Passu Cones and Passu village, Borith Lake and the Batura Glacier.

Overnight Karimabad

Day 5

Karimabad → Batakundi

Drive back over Babusar Top to Batakundi.

Overnight Batakundi

Day 6

Saif-ul-Malook Lake → Islamabad

Visit Saif-ul-Malook Lake, then drive back to Islamabad. End of tour.
